• ATTEND ALL PERFORMANCES!!! Your kids may not say it (or realize it), but they need and want you there! Performing in front of those you know has an impact that is important and immeasurable! This includes games, tournaments, parades, and concerts at school!
• Bring a padded stadium chair! Your backside will thank you after sitting through evening games and long tournament days. At home games, our band parents enjoy sitting at the 30 yard line closest to the concession stand in the section next to the band so we can visit and get to know each other, cheer the band on, and see our own kids up as close as possible!
• Support your student by making sure their uniform is cleaned as required during the season, and that when they leave for performances, all parts of their uniform are worn correctly.
• Please make sure your student arrives promptly to all performances and pick them up promptly afterwards.
• Support our music director by supporting and reminding your student of all policies, guidelines and expectations while in uniform.
• Wear the Instrumental Music “booster spirit wear” — we have t-shirts, polos, and jackets to show-off our school spirit and pride in our kids. Complete the separate order form or contact Jodi Adams (jadams6@ymail.com).
• All football games and tournaments have entry fees for spectators, so bring money to get in. If you have other student family members attending, remind them to bring their ASB cards to that they can get in at student prices. You will also want to bring money for food, snacks, and drinks. Some sites (away games) will allow small coolers, others will not. Fred Kelly Stadium does not allow outside food and drinks.
• Parade days are long — hot during the day, and cool at night. Sunscreen and jackets will be welcomed friends, as will lots of water.
• Volunteers to help during games, parades, concerts, and tournaments are always needed. Support your student by offering extra hands to help with snacks/water for the band, load/unload truck, help set up field pre-show and tear-down after field shows and concerts in the PAC (Performing Arts Center).
Notes to Students and Parents
• Donations of cases of water (8 oz.) are always welcomed to prevent dehydration during our long events. Marching, playing, and wearing polyester uniforms can be problematic if there is not proper nutrition and hydration. Make sure your student eats before performance and remind them about drinking plenty of water so as to avoid getting light-headed or feeling faint.
• GET INVOLVED — volunteer to help out, come to Booster meetings, this program is only as successful as the efforts of the students and parents who are participating actively!!!
• DEODORANT!!!!!!! We want to be able to hear you play in formation, not smell you in formation — keep an extra in your uniform bag!!!
• Put on sunscreen if you are prone to sunburn! Daytime tournaments and parades are sunny and hot! Extra water is a MUST!
• If you take regular medications, make sure to bring them with you! Bring whatever you may need for a nagging headache, chapped lips, or runny nose. Some tournament days can last up to 12 hours!
• Also important to remember: spare gloves and black socks, band aids, valve oil, extra reeds, jacket for cool evenings after being in hot sun all day.
• Remember to bring what you need to keep your hair “up” — applies to girls AND guys!
• Pack a few snacks, and/or bring money to buy them. Remember the rules about eating while in uniform; ask your captains if you have any questions.
• All band shoes look alike! Write your last name in the inside of the tongue of both your shoes!!!
