TailgatePartyFootball season is here! Please join us at the high school on September 12 from 4 pm to 6 pm for a pre-game Marchin Spartan tailgate party. We'll have barbeques for you to bring and grill your own favorite meat (Please no turkeys...) The Beatty Family will happily donate some hot dogs and buns if you're going to be too rushed to get something, we've got donated sodas and water, and boosters can spring for chips and some side dishes and condiments; so you basically are looking at a free meal!;Obviously this will be a non alcohol party.

The Marchin Spartans will leave on 3 busses for Fred Kelly Field on Major Jay time - at 5:45-6:00 pm with the instrument trailer and some advance boosters to prep the stadium for our group. If any "new" boosters are interested in learning the ropes about and helping prepare and cordon off band & Booster seating, or load/unload instruments, just let us know at the tailgate party. Pretty easy stuff, kind of fun and usually there's plenty of help. Remaining boosters and alumni will follow on a 4th bus (5th bus?) if we get enough tailgate party-ers. Parking at Fred Kelly is difficult, so riding a bus (even a school bus) there can save some stress and it's only about 2 miles. After the game it's back on the bus for a quick exit and then everyone gets back to the school at about the same time. Unload, go home and celebrate another victory for the Band. And the football team too. You'll need: 

Money for a ticket to get in. Hopefully still $8. general admission.
A stadium seat or blanket to sit on. Concrete seats do get hard.
A camera or camcorder. Submit em! We always like pictures and footage, yours might be used on the website!
Some might like earplugs to lower the volume a bit.
A voice to cheer on your Marchin Spartans, and also those guys on the field that fill the time between the Band's songs! 
Got a Booster shirt? Show your pride! Need one? We'll get them!
 
Can't tailgate but will see us there? Boosters sit in the section to the left of the Band as you face the stands. Look for lots of Band Booster shirts and smiles. Come on up and join us!
 
Please RSVP before September 7 by sending an e-mail to Janice Holmes (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.). Give your family's name and the number of bus seats that your group will need. Remember, your "Bando" student will be riding separately with the rest of the Band so don't count that one.

There's no charge for the bus ride but we'll have the donation drum out for anything that you might care to give. Let's go rock the stadium!

Jessica's role as Secretary encompasses many responsibilities on a daily basis, including working with the Director and students to help keep the band room organized, filing and duplicating sheet music, helping to schedule and coordinate performances and rehearsals, and as a result of her experience as a VPHS alumni, she is able to answer questions related to anything involving the school or Instrumental Music program. Major Chuck Jay, Band Director

Chuck Jay has been the Director of Instrumental Music at Villa Park High School since 2005. A graduate of Villa Park in the seventies, Mr. Jay has been a Spartan even longer than Mr. Howard! Mr. Jay holds a Bachelor of Music from California State University Long Beach, a secondary teaching credential and a Master of Business Administration degree. Initially hired to teach music at Villa Park in 1977, Mr. Jay now teaches where he once learned, still marches with pride as a Spartan and looks forward to everyday with the students in his program. Jon is an alumni who is passionate about music -- both as a performer and also as a teacher.  He has helped many aspiring musicians to become better at playing their chosen instrument, or assisted students who take on a second or third instrument.  Jon also teaches at the various OUSD and private schools at the Jr. High and elementary level. David Marsh, Director of Musical Technology

David Marsh is the Director of Musical Technology for the Villa Park High School Instrumental Music department. His responsibilities include (but are not limited to) acquisition and management of technology relevant to the 21st century music industry, teaching of piano classes and various instruments, and going on emergency pop-tart runs for Major Jay. David is an Alumni of the school, and plans on continuing to contribute to the program for as long as possible. Read More
